About Me

As associate chief medical officer, Matthew Oswald, MD, focuses on regulatory and compliance activities across Shirley Ryan С¶÷ÑÅ¡¯s continuum of care ¡ªinpatient, DayRehab and outpatient. Key responsibilities include oversight of Joint Commission and CARF medical staff performance expectations; clinical policies; and medical staff credentialing and privileging processes.

Additionally, Dr. Oswald is actively involved in clinical care as well as education of residents and medical students. His inpatient and outpatient practices focus on rehabilitation management following medically complex conditions ¡ª including organ transplantation, cardiac surgery, LVAD placement, and a variety of orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions. His research projects and collaborations span his areas of clinical involvement. Additionally, he is an assistant professor in the department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Oswald earned a bachelor¡¯s degree in biology from Illinois Wesleyan University and a doctor of medicine degree from Northwestern University. He completed his residency in PM&R through the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University/ Shirley Ryan С¶÷ÑÅ. He is board-certified in PM&R.
