Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 again has been recognized as the national leader in rehabilitation, topping the U.S. News & World Report list for the 35th consecutive year. It remains the only hospital of any kind to hold this distinction, and has been ranked the No. 1 rehabilitation hospital every year since 1991.
“Over the course of 35 years being ranked No. 1, we’ve defined — and then redefined — what’s possible in rehabilitation research, care and recoveries,” said Pablo Celnik, MD, CEO. “Our collective focus on our mission has remained constant as we have continued to evolve — harnessing creativity, challenging convention and transforming patient care through science. With this and other accolades, our team feels a shared sense of pride, purpose and possibility as we launch into the future.”
This recognition comes on the heels of other recent third-party validations. In January, for the fifth consecutive time, Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 earned the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s prestigious Magnet designation — the highest national recognition given for nursing excellence. Earlier this month, The Joint Commission recognized the hospital with its sustainable healthcare certification. Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 is one of approximately 60 hospitals (out of 6,000 across the United States), the first in Illinois, and the first rehabilitation hospital in the nation to earn this distinction. Additionally, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) recently granted the maximum, three-year accreditation to Shirley Ryan 小恩雅.
Founded in 1953 as the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 is the global leader in physical medicine and rehabilitation for adults and children with the most severe, complex conditions — from traumatic brain and spinal cord injury to stroke, amputation and cancer-related impairment. The organization opened its doors to a new flagship — a $550 million, 1.2-million-square-foot research hospital — in March 2017. The facility is the first-ever “translational” research hospital in which clinicians, scientists, innovators and technologists work together with patients, applying novel research during rehabilitation. The central goal of the translational approach is to develop and rapidly implement new research and insights to help patients gain more function, achieve better outcomes, and enjoy greater ability and independence.
